How often should you clean your windows in Tulsa?

Most Tulsa homes need their windows cleaned twice a year, once in spring and once before the holidays, and most businesses once a year. Trees, sprinklers and dust can make more frequent cleaning worthwhile. This article explains how to judge what your home needs.

What most Tulsa homeowners do

Most of our home customers are on a twice-a-year schedule: once in spring, and once in the holiday season, either around Thanksgiving or Christmas.

Spring makes sense because winter leaves a layer of dust and grime on the glass, right before the months you spend the most time looking out of it. The holiday clean makes sense for a different reason. Guests visit, and the low winter sun comes through the glass at an angle that shows every streak and spot.

Some customers add a third clean somewhere in between. Others prefer a single clean each year, which also works well.

What makes windows get dirty faster

Two houses on the same street can need very different schedules. These factors usually make the difference:

  • Trees and pollen. Oklahoma springs are heavy on pollen, and trees near the house add sap, leaves and bird droppings.
  • Sprinklers. If a sprinkler head hits your glass, the minerals in the water dry into spots. The longer those spots sit, the harder they are to remove.
  • Dust. A gravel drive, a busy road or a new neighborhood going up nearby all put more dust on the glass.
  • Screens. A dirty screen holds dust, and every rain washes some of it down onto the window.
  • The weather side of the house. Windows that take the wind, the rain and the afternoon sun tend to show dirt first.
  • Everyday use. Children, pets and cooking all leave marks on the inside of the glass.

If several of these apply to your house, you will probably want more than one clean a year. If none apply, once a year may be enough.

Signs your windows are due

  • The view looks hazy when the sun is low, even though nothing looks dirty up close.
  • Sprinkler spots that do not come off with a wipe.
  • Streaks that show up after every rain.
  • Fingerprints and smudges on the lower glass.

Schedules for businesses

Most of our commercial customers are on a once-a-year schedule. Some book twice a year, and a few three times. It depends on the building and on who sees the glass. Every guest or customer sees a hotel entrance or a storefront up close. The upper floors of an office building are seen far less.

Timing matters as much as frequency. The Drillers’ stadium is a once-a-year client. We clean its glass the first week of April, right before opening day, and have for 10 years. If your building has a busy season or a major event, it is best to schedule the clean just ahead of it.

Why regular cleaning matters

Glass that goes years without any maintenance is harder to bring back. With neglected glass it can take more than one service to get it close to where it should be. That is one of the exceptions to our job guarantee, and if your windows are in that condition, we tell you before we start. Even if you only want one clean a year, a regular yearly clean is better than a clean every few years, because each one is easier.

New construction is its own case. A new home takes at least two cleans to get the glass right, because of everything the build leaves behind on it.

Pure water helps a clean last longer

Outside, we clean with pure water on a pole. It leaves no film behind, so windows stay clean longer, which can extend the time between cleans. We explain why in how pure water window cleaning works.

Choosing a schedule

The schedule is your decision. When you contact us, we give you our recommendation for your house or building, and you choose what suits you. If you want to know what a clean will cost before you pick a schedule, read what window cleaning costs in Tulsa.
